Rice Culture EE Course offer by Toucheng Leisure Farm

Rice Culturecourse is one of the most popular EE ( environmental education) courses offer by Toucheng Leisure Farm.  Anyone who is interested at finding out more about this course can contact us on +886 9772000 or email us, our friendly course coordinators will discuss with you according to your needs.

Photos below are students who attended the rice culture course during their summer holiday.

Participants were given a brief lesson on rice culture at our multi-function AV room.

An introduction on how the rice paddy is important to our ecosystem.

Course conductor was showing the differences between brown rice and white rice.

After a 20 mins of introduction, all participants were encouraged to change farmers' costume ~ not only fun but very educational and environmental friendly!!

You never know not until you have changed yourself into the right costume, you can't feel you are doing it!

Hand in hand let's go to the rice paddy!

Look ~ how environment smart the costume it is. For example, girls are recommended to wear a straw hat with a big cotton cloth go over the hat and tight up under the chin. What a smart way to protect a sunburn, no need to apply any chemical sun lotion.

Mud House ( Photo is provided by Toucheng Leisure Farm)

Finally the group got to the rice paddy area before working on the field,  any course conductor definitely would recommend guest to take a photo in front of the mud house, a rarely seen architecture at this era.  This mud house was built in 2007 and was a replica of 1940-50's house. Again this type of house is very environmental friendly. Its unique features are thick wall ( mud with hay) , breathable roof (thick Chinese silver-grass) with local materials (can be stone, bamboo..etc). This type of houses are warm in the winter and cool in the summer,  air condition is not required in the summer, and of course there is no need a  heater for the winter.

Not so many people know that when you planting the rice you have to walk backward ......
Do you know rice paddy plays many important roles in the ecosystem....
For example: to drive biodiversity, to adjust the temperature , to promote the local stable food....

See how all the students were so concentrated at planting the rice.....with appreciation.

Teach students to make all sort of different rice desserts is also part of the course, we want students who leave the farm can change their impression of the rice, to encourage them to eat healthy local product not the fast food etc.

Students also get chances to operate traditional farming tools, picture on the right, a girl was using the rice blowing machine to separate the good and less good quality rices. Nowadays modern electrical machines have replaced all the traditional tools. Do we really need all those high technologies maybe is worthwhile to discuss?

So many relative activities can be extended from the rice culture course. Picture on the left was taken while our staff was teaching students how to use hay to make a skipping rope.

Wow! Wow! Students were all surprised the magical outcome!! They were all surprised about how our ancestors' wisdom.
