The Arrival of Firefly Season on Toucheng Leisure Farm

Firefly

Now was the season of firefly in Toucheng Leisure Farm. The firefly season starts from April to Jun.

Order: Coleoptera

Characteristics:

NOT all kinds of firefly will glowing at night. It was complete metamorphosis insect. During larvae stage, it was carnivorous aquatic larvae and mainly eat snails, shellfish or crustacean.  Their foods: 

Hippentis umblicalis

Cipangopaludina chinensis

Actually in larvae stage of firefly has two different kinds. For Luciola ficta is aquatic, some other kinds of firefly's larvae are terrestrial. For terrestrial type, their foods are snail and earthworm. it undergoes 5 to 7 times the molting process and then become pupate. When adult, they become "vegetarian" and feed on dews and nectar.

Night View of Firefly:

We are still protectiong this habitat area of firefly and avoid to exploit this area. In order to protect this nature, we are avoid using chemical like herbicides and fertilizer in our farm.
